Feeling confused with how to keep your beloved cashmere pieces looking new? Worried about moths that are attracted to our everyday scents, such as perfume, food, deodorant, etc.? Here you are 5 tips to take care of your cozy cashmere pieces.
1. Always clean cashmere before storing for next winter
Cashmere is best washed by hand in cold water with super mild detergent, such as Woolite, for optimal softness and protection from chemicals. Allow to soak for 10 minutes before rinsing thoroughly. Don’t rub while washing the garment.
2. Never wring or twist a cashmere sweater
To remove excess water, lay the sweater out on a pale coloured or white towel, gently knead it by hand into shape and size, and remove as many creases or folds as possible.
3. Do not tumble dry
Leave cashmere to dry laid flat – if you hang it, it will be stretched in length and distorted in the form of humps on the shoulders of the garment. Keep it away from direct sunlight. Allow it air-dry naturally.
4. Always fold cashmere sweaters in thirds
Cashmere sweaters should be stored flat in a folded manner, rather than storing on a hanger. Fold sweater in thirds so that you won’t get a fold line running down the front of the sweater.
5. Store in a cool, dry place avoiding direct sunlight
Store your cashmere in a clean and damp-free place. Wrap them in colourless tissue paper and place in a sealed plastic container with natural moth deterrent when the items are completely dry.
